API’S BERLIN DIARIES:
My Quest to understand my grandfather’s nazi past

Searching for answers why Api had joined the Nazi party, Gabrielle Robinson retraces his steps in the Berlin of the 21st century, torn between her love for her grandfather and trying to assess his political responsibility.

On this journey she learnt that we all need to feel and understand the buried layers of history, family, and place that still are part of us. Such an accounting of our personal and national past may help us live together with compassion and tolerance.

“This is a must read for anyone interested in the German experience during WWII”—Ariana Neumann, author of When Time Stopped
